Tinubu has the capacity to restructure Nigeria — Gbenga Daniel

Former Governor of Ogun State and serving Senator, Gbenga Daniel, has expressed strong confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ability to restructure Nigeria and establish true federalism through bold reforms and strategic governance steps.

Speaking at the 99th Birthday Lecture in honour of Afenifere Leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, held at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Daniel commended Tinubu’s leadership for prioritising electoral reforms, judicial independence, and most notably, the devolution of powers.

Daniel described the recent inauguration of Regional Development Commissions by the Tinubu’s administration as a strategic move toward entrenching federalism and tailored regional development.

He emphasised that these commissions could help address long-standing demands for resource control and administrative autonomy, especially in southern Nigeria.

“Restructuring Nigeria in a way that earns the buy-in of all may not be as fast as some desire, but the benefits will come, fostering unity and cohesion,” Daniel stated during his lecture.

Delivering a speech titled “A Strong United Yoruba Race as Panacea for Reviving Vanishing Yoruba Values and Culture,” Daniel stressed the importance of cultural unity among the Yoruba people as a pillar for broader national transformation.

He also acknowledged that resistance to restructuring persists, often due to misconceptions and political distrust, but maintained that the initiative remains essential for achieving national unity, equity, and sustainable development.

Calling on the pan-Yoruba group Afenifere, Daniel urged collaboration with like-minded socio-political organisations to build consensus around key national issues and translate shared goals into actionable political outcomes.
