According to her, her only “crime” was being in love with a yahoo boy who had scammed several individuals.
She explained that her role in the situation was limited to being in a relationship with him, and she now finds herself responsible for paying back the $500k after serving time behind bars.
She urged other women to learn from her mistake, saying: “Nigerian ladies, please learn from my experience. I was arrested in the U.S. and am now facing the payment of N825 million for a crime I didn’t commit. I was charged with conspiracy to commit fraud and flight risk, just because I was in a relationship with a yahoo boy.”
She continued, “I spent 10 days in jail, a year under house arrest, and wore an ankle monitor for three years. Now I’m forced to pay $500k (N825 million) for something I knew nothing about—all because I was in love with a yahoo boy. I was gullible in my early twenties, and he took advantage of me.”
She concluded, “While my ex-boyfriend is free and living his life, I’m left to pay the price for a $500k crime I didn’t commit. I’m the scapegoat, and this is a burden I’ll carry for the rest of my life.”
