Kyle Walker tipped for AC Milan captaincy after Champions League exit

Kyle Walker has been tipped to take over as AC Milan captain following their disappointing Champions League exit at the hands of Feyenoord.

Milan crashed out in the round of 16 after a 2-1 aggregate defeat, with their second-leg match at San Siro turning against them after Theo Hernandez’s controversial red card.

With their European hopes dashed, discussions have emerged over leadership concerns within the squad.

Former United States goalkeeper Tony Meola, speaking on CBS Sports, expressed his belief that Walker, despite only joining the club recently, has the experience and mentality to lead the team.

The 34-year-old defender, who has settled well in Serie A, has been a key figure alongside fellow new signings Christian Pulisic and Yunus Musah.

“I hope Kyle Walker steps up to be the guy,” Meola said. “If you gave him the armband right now, I’d be okay with it because there’s really nobody in that dressing room.

“I know [Mike] Maignan has been wearing it, but there’s no one I look at as the leader.”

Currently seventh in Serie A, Milan will now shift focus to securing European qualification and competing for domestic silverware.

They have already won the Supercoppa Italiana and remain in contention for the Coppa Italia, where they have reached the semi-finals.
