Raye’s service year was extended by 60 days as punishment for her comments.

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has sanctioned Rita Ushie, popularly known as Raye, over her viral comment about President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

It’s worth noting that Raye made headlines in March 2025, over her comments about President Bola Tinubu’s administration, expressing frustration over Nigeria’s economic hardship.

She described the government as “terrible” due to the rising cost of living and accused it of ignoring citizens’ plight.

However, NYSC summoned Raye to a disciplinary panel at the orientation camp in Iyana Ipaja, Lagos, where she was informed that her service year would be extended by 60 days as punishment for her comments.

Despite Raye’s apology and having only one month left in her service, the NYSC still went ahead with the sanction, sparking widespread criticism from civil rights groups and activists.

In solidarity, prominent human rights activists, Omoyele Sowore and Festus Ogun, have rallied behind Raye, condemning the NYSC’s actions as a direct attack on freedom of expression and democratic rights.
