Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential flagbearer, has expressed willingness to serve only one term as president if it’s part of a coalition agreement.

Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, has declared that he will once again contest for Nigeria’s highest office in 2027, stressing that he is prepared to serve only one term if a coalition agreement requires it.

PeterObi made the disclosure on Sunday night while engaging supporters during a live interactive session on 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) Space.

The former Anambra State Governor clarified that he is not in any alliance talks with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar or any politician involving a joint presidential ticket.

According to Obi, “I have not joined in any form of discussion on joint tickets, including with Atiku. If there is any form of agreement that will restrict me to four years in office, I will comply with the agreement and be ready to leave office by 28th May, 2031.”

While confirming that he is involved in coalition discussions, Obi insisted that his participation is strictly driven by the urgent need to reposition Nigeria.

He said, “If the coalition is not about stopping the killings in Benue, Zamfara, how to revive our economy, how to make our industries productive, how to put food on the tables of Nigerians… Count me out. Nigeria is currently at war. We need to do something about it.”

Obi urged Nigerians to join him in his mission to rescue the country, assuring that he would stabilise the nation within two years if elected.

“I will bring stability in Nigeria within two years in office. Leaders of Nigeria should sit down in Nigeria and fix Nigeria,” he said.

Addressing internal issues within the Labour Party, Obi disclosed that efforts were underway to ensure the recognition of the Nenadi Usman-led faction by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“We are working around the clock to get INEC to endorse the Nenadi Usman-led Labour Party based on the Supreme Court ruling,” he stated.

Reaffirming his stance on power rotation, Obi said, “I believe in the rotation of government between North and South. I implemented it in Anambra as a governor.”

He argued that equitable representation remains crucial for the stability and unity of Nigeria.

Obi also criticised President Bola Tinubu over his recent extended visit to St Lucia, calling out what he described as misplaced priorities.
