Celebrity journalist Seun Oloketuyi has confirmed the passing of veteran Nollywood actor Segun Remi, popularly known as Chief Kanran. In a post on his Instagram page, Seun revealed that the iconic actor died on Friday morning at the age of 72. However, details surrounding his death remain undisclosed at the time of this report.

Chief Kanran was a household name in the Yoruba film industry, celebrated for his humor, unique style, and commanding presence in countless stage plays and movies throughout his illustrious career spanning decades.

Actress Jaiye Kuti also shared the heartbreaking news via her Instagram page on Thursday, August 14, 2025, expressing deep sorrow over the loss. She penned an emotional tribute, lamenting his passing and praying for God’s comfort for his family. Jaiye’s post read:
