Shettima Returns to Abuja After UNGA 80 and Germany Diplomacy

Vice President Kashim Shettima is back in Abuja after wrapping up a week-long diplomatic mission that combined high-level engagements at the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York and strategic meetings in Germany. Representing President Bola Tinubu, Shettima delivered Nigeria’s national statement, where he passionately called for comprehensive UN reforms, including a permanent African seat on the Security Council.

During his time in New York, Shettima also met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, who praised Nigeria’s efforts toward global peace and its Security Council ambitions. He further championed Africa’s sovereignty over its $700 billion mineral resources and showcased Nigeria’s $200 billion energy transition opportunity to global investors.

Before heading to Germany, the Vice President assured Nigerians in the diaspora of their inclusion in Tinubu’s administration policies. In Germany, he held talks with financial and development partners, strengthening international collaborations to drive Nigeria’s economic renewal. Observers have described the trip as a significant success in advancing Nigeria’s global standing.
